Riiiiiiight then we’re back at Ormside with a special Sunday edition of Diversion powered by the Beatcrime Soundsystem to bring you some of our favourites from London and beyond. If you like your music weird and eclectic, Grace Black has you covered with gorgeous selections which cover ground from mellow guitars, to left field dub, to dancehall, to industrial and beyond - at times infused with a touch of dark, twisted dread, all beautifully knitted together with care and precision.
Our resident jester takes a brief pause from mastering ceremonies as Rex Dominos and jumps behind his mixing desk to treat us to his critically acclaimed live set as Elijah Minnelli taking inspiration from dub, folk and cumbia processed through fried synapses to bring you his own sonic soup designed to be enjoyed on big rigs.
South London native Elle Andrews is a stalwart of the scene. Co-founder of MAL Recordings alongside Jon K and host of the bi-monthly BUͧS͛Y S͛IͥGN∀LS͛ which ran on French station LYL until May 2024, she draws from a sprawling, expansive collection which touches many corners of her influences including, dub, percussion, r&b, house, industrial, experimental, psych rock, punk and more. The care, thought and ingenuity that goes into her sets is always very evident and we can’t wait to hear what she brings to Diversion for you.
Coming all the way from Belgium, we’re very fortunate to be joined by Rudi J, fka Weird Dust and one half of Tav Exotic with Bear Bones, Lay Low. Rudi’s rare but extremely well developed live set encompasses most of the sound system music spectrum; playing fluidly and equally with dancehall’s syncopation, dubstep’s halftime squelch and steppers' pounding baselines. Having worked consistently with Meakusma and releasing on the likes of Sagat and Pretty Sneaky on his own Private Stress label, his taste in psychedelic lefty wonk and psych acid kraut synth while paying the proper tribute to Soundsystem culture’s sonic legacy shines through everything he does. An under appreciated hero of the European underground music scene, we cant wait to have him for his London debut.
Last and by no means least, we have East London’s mighty Gary The Tall returning to take the reins and make you move with panache. If you were at the last event, you’ll know how much we loved his excursion into post-punk, synth, no wave, dub, sexy psychedelic rock and other left field cosmic delights. He can talk about his records endlessly and clearly has passion running through his veins so we’re very grateful he’s agreed to come back again and share that with you.
Our trusty residents will be knocking about to start and end the event and see off your Sunday scaries. Diversion is designed to be a friendly space of self expression, but any bullshit will get you the boot. Please be accountable to each-other and talk to the bar staff, sinny, Charlie or the door staff if someone is acting up.
